Relocation for Cycle Peru

Happy New Year all,

Hope 2012 finds you well. Rudy and I are having a life change this year and have decided to relocate to Arequipa early and for the foreseeable future. This does not change the business much, only to let those contacting us by phone take as of the end of Janurary we will no longer be contactable on our NZ number. If you need to contact us by phone please use the following number: (0051) 950796242

Otherwise we are still on the same emails as always.

Take care and hope 2012 is a good one for you!

Sustainable Practices - Our Goals

Pro-world/ Cycle Peru partnership:

We are pleased to announce a partnership with Pro-world Peru, a charity organisation based in Urubamba in the Sacred Valley near Cusco.

We have a vested interest in giving back to the local communities in Peru, as well as taking steps to protect the natural environment we will be showing off to those on tour with us.

After much searching and discussion with local groups and even considering running our own program on top of our tours, we were lucky enough to make contact with Eliza and Kate at Pro-world who are running several initiatives that are in line with what we would like to see achieved in Peru.

One of Pro-world’s projects is working on installing clean burning stoves in rural communities around Peru, below is an overview of what they are doing and why, and a picture of the type of stoves they are installing:

‘Smoke from primitive indoor stoves kills 1.9 million people each year, mostly women and children, from lung and heart disease.

Benefits of a Clean Cook Stove

  •  Economic:  The Pro World Stove burns less wood, so less buying or searching for it
  •  Environmental: Reduced carbon emissions and deforestation

These cleaner-burning stoves are made out of sustainable, low-cost materials, so their impact is profound for both the community and the environment.  With 2,700 installed and more in production, over 16,000 people are breathing easier during dinner and throughout the day’.

Providing for this project will be our primary focus initially. We have made the commitment that for every person who books on a tour with us we will in turn fund one clean burning stove to be installed for a family in need.

We are excited to be able to give something back to the local communities we will be passing through, and if you are coming with us to Peru in the future, congratulations on being a part of this project also.

If you would like to help Pro World further we will be offering a collection box on tours to donate to other projects, such as installing water filters and environmental education programs in the local schools. 100% of all money collected will be going directly to Pro World.
